Our Services & Fees

Lowcountry Lactation Station offers the following services:

Pre-natal Visit

Private consultation to help get breastfeeding off to the best start, which is especially important in the first few days after giving birth.  If you are planning a hospital birth, it is important to understand hospital routines that may interfere with breastfeeding success and know what you need to do to establish your supply.

It is suggested to plan this visit by 35 weeks gestation.

Cost: $80          Military discount: $ 60

In-Home Breastfeeding Consultation

In this initial consultation, consultant will take a complete maternal and infant health history, perform physical assessments of the baby and of the mother’s breasts, and observe a breastfeeding session.  The baby is weighed before and after the feeding using a sensitive digital scale to assess breast milk intake.

A typical consult takes 2 hours. A written plan of care, a coded insurance claim form and a monetary receipt for purposes of reimbursement will be provided at the time of the visit. To maintain continuity of care a comprehensive report is sent to your pediatrician and obstetrician of choice. The lactation consultant will follow up with you within 48-72 hours after the visit. Follow up assistance by phone is provided at any time.

If additional issues or questions cannot be addressed by phone, a follow-up consultation may be recommended.  Many insurance companies are reimbursing for multiple lactation visits; please check with your health insurance provider for more information. For example, Aetna covers up to six visits.

If your home destination is greater than 20 miles from West Ashley than there is an additional $20.00 fee.

Cost:  $160          Military discount:  $140

Follow-Up Consultation

Many breastfeeding issues can be resolved in one visit, but sometimes additional hands-on help and continued assessment is needed to fully meet your breastfeeding goals.  Other times, new issues arise in the breastfeeding relationship, and an additional visit can help keep mothers and babies on track.

In this visit, for mothers who have already had a comprehensive consultation, we will reassess infant feeding and make necessary adjustments to the plan of care.

Cost: $90               Military discount: $ 70

Infant Massage

Offered individually or with 2 families. Learn how to professionally massage your infant and all the reasons you would want to. It is a wonderful way to open up the world of communication between you and your baby before your baby walks and talks.

Classes can start when infant is 6 weeks of age.

Cost: $75/single, $100/double

Payment & Insurance Reimbursement

Travel mileage over 20 miles = additional $20 fee

Payment by cash, check or credit card is expected at the time of service.

Linda Merli is an in-network provider for Aetna. Please ask your insurance company to provide you with a list of lactation consultants.  If they do not have any, your visit  should be covered, although we still cannot guarantee this, as health plans vary. If this occurs be sure to contact your insurance provider to get a “gap” exception, as most insurance companies do not have IBCLC’s in network.

NOTE: Covering lactation is new to insurance companies and many do not know all the facts at this time!
